Naming a new school is much like naming a baby. It is a new beginning. There is a great deal of excitement, adventure, and sheer wonder that takes place over the idea of a name. It says so much about who one is and what one hopes to become. Therefore, the three of us, Cindy, Sandy, and Lisa, sat for weeks trying to come up with the perfect name. After hours and hours of thought, research, and conversation, we came up with what we think says who we are. In other words, our name, “Argonauta,” didn’t just come to us over night; and of course, there is a story.
An Argonaut is a very rare and delicate papery shell. A mother Argonaut creates this seashell with the sole purpose of serving as a cradle for her eggs. She then carefully rises from the depths of the ocean to the surface and releases her young. She leaves her beautiful shell and returns to a new life. It seems as if this perfectly created fragile shell is a symbol of new hope, a safe haven for a delicate journey of her young. The shape of the shell itself appears as if a ship ready to set sail. The entire process lends itself to both nurturing and freedom, as well as, security and adventure.
The “Argonauta” (Paper Nautilis) is an ancient shell that has been in the ocean for many years. Its chambers have perfectly evolved so that it can travel from the bottom of the ocean to the surface. This shell type inspired the engineering and mastermind of the first submarine; thus, our name, ArgonautaChristianSchool – we seek to explore and search for knowledge and God’s truth in His immense world, secure in His wondrous love.
